May the example of so many doctors and healthcare workers who have risked their life to the point of losing it due to the #pandemic move us to feeling truly grateful for how generously, and sometimes heroically, they carry out their profession.

People always ask me why I moved to MN from the East Coast and my answer is always the same: @MedPedsMike. Today, the MPPDA wrote this letter to #ACGME, #Tulane, and the medicine and pediatric program directors association in support of Dr. Dennar and calling for accountability.

Getting lots of really good questions about how to support Dr. Princess Dennar and @TheTulane7. As someone who has experienced racism and sexism in academic medicine--and is still fighting it--I want to share why it's so important they know they have our collective support. 1/

Remember this viral photo? These are Black med students at @TulaneMedicine—recruited & supported by some amazing (Black) leaders.

Boycotting their GME programs WILL hurt trainees—guaranteed.

I don’t know the answers. But I know there are babies in the #DNRTulane bathwater.😞

“I’m afraid that white medical students wouldn’t follow or rank favorably a program with a black program director; [however] we’ll be comfortable with you sharing a position as co-director with the previous [white male] program director.”

New study co-authored by URMC researchers finds that COVID positive mothers do not pass on the virus through breast milk, and that 2/3rds of breast milk sampled contained COVID antibodies. You can read more here: #URochesterResearch #ResearchMatters

Tonight my 3 year old saw my pills on the table. She asked if she could help me take them and I said yes. She then picked them up, 1 by 1, placed them in my mouth, and waited for me to drink water and swallow. We did this 21 times. I fight ALS for her.

Good night moon.

NFL's tribute to healthcare workers before commencing a potentially high risk event (fans, imperfect social distancing, Super Bowl parties) is in line with U.S. response:

Lots of lip service praising healthcare workers
Limited action to decrease risk of transmission

In a month or more, folks 65 and up will be able to.

What is the life expectancy in Roxbury, MA, a majority Black community and one of the areas hardest hit by COVID?

59 years.

This is how you ingrain health inequities.

🧵/ Books were a saving grace of 2020. Discovering new worlds or ways to envision a better one provided a relief from the stress and suffering so apparent in my first full year of attendinghood 📚🐛
